Things Change....

Hi guys, Sam here. I guess you might have noticed we haven't posted in a while. We have had a pretty tough fall. Susie has left us. She wouldn't play or have any interest in anything and I knew something was wrong. Our humans kept taking her back and forth to the Vet man. One day she wouldn't get up anymore. My humans fed her really tasty things like baby food and would carry her up and down stairs and to go outside. But one day, she went to see the Vet man and she didn't come home.

I kept looking for her, poking under the blankie, in the bed, looking at the door. I became really sad and didn't want to do anything. I didn't understand, but my humans finally explained it to me. She wasn't coming back and there was nothing we could do. I was devastated.

Then one day, in came Sally. Sally has had a hard short life. She already had puppies and is only 1 1/2 years old! And, she is also a basset hound and looks like me... only smaller! Thanks to Basset Buddies Rescue in Wisconsin, my humans found Sally for us and she is a really great little sister. She is good therapy for me. She makes me play again and whispers in my ear. She lets me steal her toys and then steals them back. I am in love again.

Today, we had a lot of snow. Sally body slammed me... I outweigh her by 20 pounds and pushed back. She went end over end and was covered with snow. Then we came inside and played with all of our stuffed toys and chased Bob the cat. Life is good again.

Susie we miss you

Last Christmas

Well, the humans have all these packages and we KNOW what is going on. Because we won't leave them alone, they put them in this big basket, thinking we couldn't get to them.

But they were wrong. First, I sniff for new additions, and delicately nip all the edges....

Then, I push it towards the couch (i.e. huge dog bed) so I can tip it over, and tease Sam...
Sam is saying, "let me know when you get something open so I can come steal it from you". (Sam has not a clue after all these years how to open presents. I can do it in lightening speed).

Merry Christmas Everybody!

The Great Thansgiving Turkey Story

Since Thanksgiving is coming near, I feel it is time to reiterate this absolutely hysterical story. I have reprinted it from someone who posted it on the, a great basset website. This is for any dog lover!

YOU HAVE TO READ THIS and if you don't laugh hysterically...

Tonight was a great walk. We went down to our favorite spot, a human made pond after the end of the road. There weren't many frogs though, so we didn't go in the water.

But, it was still a good night. Lots of smells and then we were on our way back home, where bones were waiting!

And here is a picture of a painting one of our humans did, that might explain the sport of "Froggin"....

Deck Time!

Finally! A nice sunny day so I (Sam) could get my deck time!

What else is there to say? A thouroughly basset day.

In the Rain

I like the rain. (This is Susie... Sam is inside, he is a total wimp and hates being wet).

It does mean no evening walk, but then... the smells that accompany the rain are so wonderful...

Why aren't you coming out?

Torturing the Cat

Well what a boring weekend! The weather was cool here, and it was we admit GREAT sleep weather for bassets, our humans were uninspired. They keep complaining about it being too cold. They didn't even give us much "deck time" on the back deck.

So, we harassed Bob the Cat.

Sam Says: I chased the dastardly fellow into his little castle!

Susie Says: I don't fear the paw. And he knows it.

Sam Says: Well... I kinda' do!

Bob Says: Ya, you guys are real brave! Come on, show the picture with the paw!

Ok, a sort of quiet weekend... but a good basset one, and good naps and plenty of bones!
